Aim

To carry out all the activities of the Company considering the health of people, safety, and protection of the environment as essential values. To advance progressively towards excellence, carrying out systematic actions for improvement aligned with the challenges and objectives of each Business/Area.

Our Commitments

Leadership and culture:
Management will promote a culture of health, safety, environmental protection and integrated management, promoting appropriate risk perception, transparency and confidence in reporting, continuous learning, and innovation. The Corporate Executive Committee leads the health, safety, and environmental protection programmes, considering them a priority in decision-making. They provide the necessary resources and ensure that all staff members have the necessary skills and work in accordance with the established principles.

Incorporation of safety and environment criteria throughout the activity cycle:
Ensuring proactive risk management throughout the activity cycle to prevent damages to people and assets while minimising the impact of our operations on the environment. Establishing the appropriate means to prevent major accidents and limit their consequences.

Integrated management:
Integrating health, safety, and the environmental protection in the business management’s chain of command. Businessam-website$ management teams will be responsible for implementing the management system and achieving results.

Compliance with norms:
Meeting the legal requirements in force at each location, as well as the established internal regulations, which are drafted taking into account legislative trends and international standards, as well as other commitments that the organisation subscribes with its stakeholders and planning accordingly.

Continuous improvement:
Establishing objectives and goals for improvement, systematically taking into account the requirements of stakeholders, continuously assessing performance, applying the necessary corrections to achieve the proposed goals, and establishing verification, auditing, and control processes to ensure that objectives are met.

Communication and relations with society:
Building and maintaining communication channels with stakeholders. working collaboratively with local communities and society, contributing knowledge and informing stakeholders reliably and transparently. All employees are responsible for their own safety, as well as for contributing to health, safety and environmental performance at both the individual and collective levels, regardless of their place in the Company or location in the world.

If there is a conflict between safety and operating profit, all employees are responsible for choosing safety and Management will always support this choice.

Commitment to safety

An Inseparable Part Of Our Organizational Culture

Safety is fundamental and non-negotiable, and it must guide all of our actions and commitments. Our safety culture encompasses the behaviors, beliefs, and values that all of the people at our Company share as a way of controlling the risks present in our activities.

Our aim is to pursue our “zero accidents” goal, and we focus on facilities, processes, and people to achieve it. Prevention, incident analysis, communication, and improvement measures help us to control and manage risks.

Our Own Safety Culture Model Was Designed Based On Seven Attributes

Our safety culture is what determines how we act when we are not being supervised, making us feel innately responsible for prioritizing safety in our actions.

This model was developed in collaboration with the Institute for a Culture of Industrial Safety (ICSI) and is the result of the analysis of best practices in industry and risk sectors, reference prescriptive bodies and consolidated models such as J. Reason.

Our assessment methodology also analyses the degree of maturity of the Safety Culture in the different facilities or business units through:

  • Perception questionnaires
  • Focus groups and interviews
  • Documentary analysis
  • On-site accompaniment

With the results obtained during these evaluations, we develop improvement plans, whose associated actions and the evaluation of their effectiveness contribute to continuous improvement.

We develop leadership in Safety and Environment (S&E) through the practice and dissemination of basic behaviours in our activities.

  • Assume individual responsibility for safety and the environment.
  • Set a visible example of our commitment to S&E.
  • Act with the firm conviction that all incidents are avoidable.
  • Train people to act as leaders in S&E.
  • Demonstrate and demand individual responsibility in S&E from all employees, systematizing positive and negative knowledge.
  • Consider S&E as the first criterion in the decision-making process.
  • Be proactive in systematically identifying all S&E risks, deficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Immediately correct the deficiencies identified in S&E.

Applying The Most Stringent Safety Standards

We meet the legal requirements in force at each location as well as the established internal regulations, which are drafted taking into account legislative trends and international standards. This also includes additional commitments that the organization undertakes with its stakeholders and, therefore, plan accordingly.

Our Own Policies Are Aligned With All International Standards In This Area

  • Integrated management. We integrate health, safety and environmental protection into business management.
  • Continuous improvement. We establish objectives and targets for improvement and evaluate performance on a continuous basis, applying the necessary corrections to reach the proposed achievements, defining verification, auditing and control processes to ensure them.
  • Communication and relationship with societies. Building and maintaining communication channels with stakeholders. working collaboratively with local communities and society, contributing knowledge and informing stakeholders reliably and transparently.

Furthermore, we comply with the stricitest international standards in terms of safety and risk analysis:.

  • We manage safety in accordance with the international standard OHSAS 18001 "Occupational Health and Safety Management System".
  • We apply international standards to ensure the safety of our processes, such as API, NFPA, ISO, EN, IEC, IOGP or CCPS.
  • We develop our own standards to ensure that our assets are designed, built, operated, inspected, maintained and modified to achieve and maintain integrity and performance throughout the lifecycle based on best practice.

We Are Part Of Several International Organizations And Initiatives

  • International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP), which serves as a global forum to improve safety, environmental and social performance through the sharing of knowledge and best practices among its members.
  • Joint industry project on oil spill response by IOGP and ipieca (the global oil and gas industry association specialising in environmental and social issues). This project harnesses the Oil&Gas industry's collective knowledge and technology for spill preparedness and response.
  • CONCAWE, the European oil companies' organisation for the protection of the environment and health, which leads research on air quality, emissions, soil contamination, waste and product safety.
  • Centre for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS), the association working to improve process safety by developing practical guidelines for the chemical, pharmaceutical and petroleum industries.
  • International Process Safety Group (IPSG), the global chemical and petrochemical industry network of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), which promotes good process safety practices aimed at preventing and mitigating the risk of industrial accidents.
  • American Petroleum Institute (API), a business association that advocates best practices in the US oil and natural gas industry.

We reduce our risks by following the criteria of the ISO 31000 international standard for “Risk Management”, with the help of risk studies, and thanks to continuous improvement that allows us to implement corrective measures in operations.
